This book is worth owning, but just to read the other books. It currently has 15 books in this series, 5 graphic novels, and two prequels/side stories. The fantasy element is really strong, making for a good read. The scavengers (a.k.a humans) are a nice touch. It shows how prominent the dragons are. The book is a little violent and bloody, but nothing like Jurassic Park. There is an arena where an evil dragon queen makes dragons fight for her amusement, so that is a little dark.
The main character, Clay is loveable, kind and loyal. He lives in Pyrrhia, the land of the dragons. His mentors’ want him to become a great warrior, but he hates to fight. He is a little lazy, and loves to eat. He lives in a cave with 3 mentors and 4 other dragons that are his friends, from different tribes. Together him and his friends escape the cave that they where kept in, and start to make a life for themselves. It was okay, but you should read it to continue going down the series.
