Setting:
This book takes on a remote island and the city of Estero. The main characters are Cabot, Seven, Tenner, Brix, and Birdie, who are children with varying ages and varying superpowers. This is the first book in a five book series. This book is told in third person, and the genre is adventure.
Plot:
On a remote island, five children live in peace. This children are offspring of a group of 8 supernatural thieves. These five children, named Seven, Brix, Tenner, Birdie, and Cabot, all have superpowers. Seven can turn invisible, Brix has athletic powers, Birdie can speak to animals, and Tenner can see in the dark, swim like a fish, and hear over long distances. Cabot doesn't have any special powers that have been discovered. Over time, 7 of the 8 parents have gone missing. The 8th, Brix and Birdie's dad, has died. One day, Birdie finds a note with a map telling her to go find her mother and the stash in the City of Estero. (The stash is all the money and artifacts the supernatural thieves stole). The note also says that Louis, Birdie's dad, has moved the stash from the original hiding place that the other parents knew about. Birdie recruits Tenner to go with her, and with a promise to Brix they will be back, the pair set off. After a journey across the ocean, with the help of some aquatic creatures, Birdie and Tenner arrive at the beaches of Estero. The pair are amazed by some of the advancements that Estero has, such as cars. When Birdie and Tenner try to order breakfast at a restaurant, they are arrested. As it turns out, the type of money they were trying to pay with was outdated and was connected to a crime. However, Birdie and Tenner are released. Meanwhile, Cabot, Brix, and Seven find Louis's journal talking about the moved stash. This combined with the fact that Birdie and Tenner have been gone a while is enough to set Cabot, Brix, and Seven off to find the pair. On the journey to Estero, the trio, Cabot, Brix and Seven, find the bones of some of their parents. Finally, the trio makes it to Estero and are reunited with Birdie and Tenner. Birdie and Tenner have figured out that one of the Five's parents is being held in the president of Estero's dungeon. As the reunited five begin to plot a way to rescue the parent, a new ally arises. Is the new ally truly on their side? And will they be able to rescue one of the five's parents without being caught?
Recommendation:
I felt like this book brought a different approach to super powers than others. It showed how it can be hard to be different, but at the same time it delivered a good story. Nothing that creepy, just a couple skeletons. I like all the characters, and the villian is evil but not "evil mastermind take over the world type villain. It was cool how none of the Forgotten Five knew about modern things, like computers. Overall, pretty good superhero book, and one you should read.
